Burklee Hill Vineyards Wins Best of Class at 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LUBBOCK, TX, March 10, 2021 – Burklee Hill Vineyards was awarded Best of Class for their 2019 Reserve Tempranillo at the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC) on March 5 in Cloverdale, Calif.

The largest competition of North American wines in the world, the SFCWC was presided over by a distinguished panel of 48 judges, representing various North American wine regions and evaluating nearly 5,700 wines from over a thousand wineries.

The 2019 Reserve Tempranillo by Burklee Hill Vineyards also received a Double Gold medal, a recognition achieved when all members of the judging panel rate the entry as Gold.

Described by its makers as the “undisputed pinnacle of Texas Tempranillo,” the award-winning 2019 Reserve Tempranillo has aromas of red summer fruits, plum and leather. The wine spent a generous 10 months in oak barrels with 33% new French oak, which contributes to its aromatic profile and tannic structure.

“Proud would be an understatement,” says Ben Hernandez, director of wine at Burklee Hill Vineyards. “After what has been a trying first year for our new tasting room, this is truly a historic moment for us at Burklee Hill. And to have claimed the title for our touted state grape? I’m awestruck.”

“We are so passionate about our 100% Texas wine, sourced from vineyards in West Texas and the Texas High Plains AVA,” adds Elizabeth Hill, co-owner of Burklee Hill Vineyards. “To see our wine recognized on a national level by industry leaders and experts is a tremendous honor.”
