“We’re thrilled to receive two Class Champion awards from this prestigious wine competition,” said Amie Dean, marketing and events coordinator. “The Hill family puts lots of love and care into their winemaking, and to have their Reserve Tempranillo and Montepulciano recognized is a great honor.”

Described by its makers as the “undisputed pinnacle of Texas Tempranillo,” the 2019 Reserve Tempranillo has aromas of red summer fruits, plum and leather. The wine spent 10 months in oak barrels with 33% new French oak, which contributes to its aromatic profile and tannic structure. The Burklee Hill Vineyards Montepulciano is a blend of 2018 and 2019 harvests. It offers flavors of pomegranate, cherry and blackberry, and is barrel aged in neutral French oak for four months.

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Committee hosts this international wine competition each year. Approximately 1,000 entries are judged by a highly experienced panel that selects the award-winning wines by varietal. Over 300 wineries from around the world submitted entries this year with over 50 from Texas. The Wine Committee also hosts a Champion Wine Auction Dinner as well as Uncork & Unwind Wine Pairing Dinners during the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
